About Banana Capital
Banana Capital is a Malaysian business media startup backed by 5X Capital, founded on a simple idea: people should be able to finish reading business news without emotional damage.
Business content should help investors make better decisions, not test their pain tolerance.
5X Capital is a multi-family investment office registered with the Securities Commission Malaysia, principally engaged in private equity and corporate finance advisory.

Focused on Malaysia
We cover mainly Malaysian public-listed companies, producing short, fun, but sharp business content for everyday investors — not just those who treat footnotes like bedtime reading, and certainly not those who treat 80-page PDFs as a personality trait.
We spend our days and weeks digging through annual reports, financial statements and management presentations, so you don’t have to. (You’re welcome.)

Lim Jet Liang
Founder of Banana Capital
Jet Liang has spent most of his career analysing businesses, managing investments and trying to figure out whether a company is genuinely undervalued or merely cheap for a reason.
He started out as an equity analyst at The Edge Media Group before moving into the world of investments and family offices, where he spent years looking at everything from listed stocks and private companies to property and funds.
Along the way, Jet founded 5X Capital, joined the boards of several companies and discovered that the biggest gap in investing was not information, but clarity and readability.
Being the CEO of 5X Capital, Jet often makes people wonder whether the “5X” means five times investment returns, a coincidence, or just an unusually bold level of ambition.
But here at Banana Capital, Jet is the numbers guy.
He enjoys digging through annual reports, questioning management assumptions and building spreadsheets with more tabs than most people have browser windows.
If something in the numbers doesn’t quite add up, Jet doesn’t move on —
he moves in.
Liew Jia Teng
CEO of Banana Capital
Jia Teng (JT) spent more than 16 years as a business journalist covering Malaysian corporates and capital markets.
He started at Oriental Daily News Malaysia and The Busy Weekly, moved on to The Sun, and later joined The Edge Malaysia, where he left as Deputy Editor.
His job sometimes involved reading dense material, making sense of it and turning it into something normal people could actually get through.
Over the years, JT has interviewed CEOs, business executives, fund managers and research analysts, developing a healthy distrust of phrases like “game-changer”, “strategic collaboration” and “value-accretive”.
His coverage has largely centred on small- and mid-cap stocks, especially semiconductors and F&B, where numbers matter and narratives move fast.
After years of (un)willingly absorbing annual reports, earnings decks and management presentations in their natural habitat, JT made the highly unnecessary decision to keep doing it voluntarily.
At Banana Capital, he translates corporate language into plain English and asks the questions investors would ask if they had direct access to management — and no incentive to nod along politely.

Poor Life Choices
Jet and JT both came from The Edge Media Group, which probably explains why they still find themselves analysing companies long after work hours end.
Instead of choosing something sensible after leaving, they decided to do something worse: producing business content that ordinary people can actually finish reading without requiring coffee, aspirin or a finance degree.
Between them, they have spent years analysing companies, interviewing management teams and reading enough research reports and annual reports to qualify for some form of occupational health screening.
Removing the nonsenseOne story at a time.
Behind every company is a bigger story. We peel through the noise to help you understand the businesses, industries and trends shaping the world around you.
