• The design of the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado has been revealed in patents.
  • Truck will sport an evolutionary look that borrows from the Traverse.
  • We can expect new V8 engines, which could displace 5.7- and 6.6-liters.

The Chevrolet Silverado is one of the best-selling vehicles in America as consumers snapped up 560,264 units last year, including 358,771 Silverado 1500s. However, the current model is getting old as it was introduced in 2019 and hasn’t seen a significant update since 2022.

That being said, Chevrolet has been working on a redesigned truck for a while and spy photographers have caught the 2027 Silverado 1500 on multiple occasions. While these prototypes have been heavily disguised, the final look has been revealed in a United States Design Patent.

Originally unearthed by Car & Driver, the truck’s design is being credited to Tyler Moffett. While the name might not ring a bell, he’s worked on countless Chevrolet trucks and SUVs including the Colorado, Silverado, Traverse, Tahoe, and Suburban. As a result, finding his name on the patent is about as surprising as finding sand at the beach.

Without further ado, we can see the Silverado will adopt an all-new front fascia that closely resembles the one on the Traverse. It features split lighting units as well as a mesh grille with a long horizontal bar. Further below, there’s a rugged front bumper and what appears to be a pronounced sensor. They’re joined by a prominent air dam to help increase fuel efficiency.

Moving further back, there’s streamlined bodywork and what appears to be heavily stylized front fenders. They’re joined by a familiar greenhouse and an angular accent above the rear wheels.

The rear end is pretty evolutionary as there’s a cab-mounted spoiler and a small sliding rear window. We can also see a new tailgate that swaps “CHEVROLET” lettering for a bowtie emblem.

Elsewhere, there are new taillights that vaguely recall those used on the ill-fated Ford F-150 Lightning. They’re accompanied by a revamped bumper, which features wider and more practical footsteps.

We can’t tell much about the tailgate from the images, but we can expect an updated version of the company’s Multi-Flex design. The current version offer six settings ranging from a step to a load stop.

To help visualize the changes, we created renderings based on the patent images, giving you a better idea of how the final truck could look in the metal.

Chevrolet has been tight-lipped about the upcoming pickup, but the company is pouring billions into their next-generation V8 engine. The automaker has been coy on specifics, but has previously said the “new generation of engines is expected to deliver stronger performance,” better fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions.

The company also teased “new combustion and thermal management innovations” that will aid in these improvements.

The new V8s are expected to replace the current 5.3- and 6.2-liter units. The former produces 355 hp (265 kW / 360 PS) and 383 lb-ft (519 Nm) of torque, while the latter develops 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) and 460 lb-ft (623 Nm).

The rest of the engine lineup is more mysterious, but we wouldn’t be surprised to find a familiar turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six. That being said, the engines could receive updates to boost performance or fuel efficiency.
