- The 24-year-old driver was also found to have several different drugs in his system.
- Police in Australia issued a defect notice for the modified Model T due to several issues.
- The Ford hot rod was also determined to be unroadworthy during the roadside stop.
It’s not every day you hear about a century-old car caught speeding, let alone one involved in a modern-day cocktail of traffic violations. But here we are, because apparently, the laws of time and reason don’t apply on Australian roads.
Equipped with a 2.9-liter four-cylinder producing all of 20 hp, the Ford Model T isn’t exactly the type of car you’d expect to see speeding and attracting the attention of police. However, the driver of a Model T was recently nabbed breaking the speed limit in Australia. Not only that, but the driver was pinged for having multiple drugs in their system.
Not Your Great, Great Grandpa’s Model T
The Model T was no ordinary one. According to police in the Australian suburb of Castle Hill, it was a hot rod. We don’t have any details about what upgrades were made to the car, but the police shared an AI-generated image on Facebook, perhaps giving us an idea of what it may have looked like.

According to the local police, the driver was detected at 83 km/h (52 mph) in a 60 km/h (37 mph) zone running northbound on Old Northern Road. But getting hit with a speeding fine is the least of the driver’s concerns.
During a roadside drug test, the 24-year-old was popped for having both cannabis and cocaine in his system. He was then ordered to provide a saliva sample, which confirmed not only the presence of cocaine and THC, but also methylamphetamine. That’s not all.
Police issued a defect notice for the Model T. In Australia, these notices are issued when police suspect a vehicle is defective in some way. In this case, they noticed multiple faults, including non-functioning brake lights and indicators. The Ford was also deemed unroadworthy and modified beyond its factory specifications.
The Hills Police Area Command confirmed that the driver is scheduled to appear at Parramatta Local Court on August 14.
